With high potential in the worldwide market, controlled seaweed cultivation at sea is more sustainable, stable and productive, giving a better quality than the wild harvesting of algae.
GREAT BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY
Due to the fast global population growth, we have to start looking further to satisfy our needs in: energy, nutrition, environment… Seaweed farming is expected to generate a lot of new market potential in Europe which in Asia already represents significant business.
SUSTAINABLE SEA CULTIVATION
Seaweed takes CO2 from the atmosphere and releases oxygen; cleans the waters and increases the local biodiversity, creating a rich ecosystem around it.
INTEGRATED MULTITROPHIC AQUACULTURE SYSTEMS (IMTA)
The reproduction of a natural ecosystem by combining seaweed, shellfish and fish farming in one location improves the health and quality of all the products involved. Since the beginning of AT-SEA project, we have tested IMTA systems and showed its benefits in one of our test fields located adjacent to a salmon farm in Norway.
